SYMPTOMS
The 493T is listed as a replacement remote for this unit. The instructions for coding it explain that you have to get the code off the sticker on the old remote or the brain to determine what traces to cut.
Why can't you simply copy the cut traces from an old remote or the circuit board of the brain if the old remote isn't availble? It seems that this would be easier.
CAUSE
Because of the way these units were coded at the factory it is not recommended to try copying the trace cuts for coding a new remote
RESOLUTION
The 493T remotes are programmed to the system by cutting traces on the circuit board with corresponding, trace cuts on the unit's circuit board. There are a total of 20 traces for coding these remotes. 5 groups of 4 traces. These traces were cut by hand at the factory.
These systems were manufactured in batches at the factory. It was decided that to expedite the manufacturing process that certain traces would be cut for coding on every unit in each batch. Subsequent batches would have different traces cut on every unit in the batch. Instead of manually cutting these traces they were simply not laid down on the circuit board essentially making them cut traces.
The traces that were omitted from the board should be cut on the new remote but they will not appear to be a cut trace visually. You could use a Digital Multi Meter to check for continuity between the contacts for each trace to determine which ones are cut and which are not but this would be time consuming.
The only dependable way to determine which traces to cut is to use the code and the instructions packaged with the new remote.
