The location it shows for my car is not correct.

CAUSE
SmartPark does not track your vehicle, it uses the location of your phone to determine where you were when you parked your car. You also do not need to purchase a plan to use SmartPark, its free!Your SmartPhone's GPS accuracy is affected by a number of factors, including satellite positions, noise in the radio signal, atmospheric conditions, and natural barriers to the signal. Noise can create an error between 1 to 10 meters and results from static or interference from something near the receiver or something on the same frequency. Objects such a mountains or buildings between the satellite and the receiver can also produce error, sometimes up to 30 meters. Condition 1: Phone already knows where it is; invoking the Google map in an iPhone or Android, or running another app that uses location services will cause it to update its position. •	You press lock, the phone uses its known current location and then updates it – very fast, relatively accurate because the first pin and the final pin are set fairly close together in time. Condition 2: Phone doesn’t have a good current fix because the last time you used location services you were miles away, was a different day, etc.•	You press Lock•	Phone asks the cell tower it’s connected to where IT is (there are GPS receivers in cell towers)•	Phone sticks a pin in the map based on that first response. This can be 1-2 miles distant. •	Phone also asks cell tower what satellites it can see in the sky (that shortens its own search drastically)•	Phone then locates the satellites and will locate itself to within 50 feet or so. In Condition 2, this process can take maybe 30 seconds to a minute, depending on how good the view of the sky is, how fast the phone processor is, etc. You can see this actually happening on an iPhone or Android phone. Tag the location, check the map, location may be 1+ mile away (if the phone didn’t have a current fix when you pressed the button). Check it again in say 30 seconds, and that pin will have moved on the map. The route between start/stop may have turned into a big circle, depending on the timing. Check it again 30 seconds after that, and the pins will be on top of each other and will be very very close to the pin that shows the current handset location, assuming you stayed put. If you tag your location again right after that, the first pin will be super accurate because location services already knows where the phone is. In the real world, if you press Lock next to your car and start walking, the “final” fix will be where you were when you had walked for 30-60 seconds. I’m approximating those times & distances but you get the idea.

RESOLUTION
So, to make it work better, tag twice or tag before you walk, or have the map open, etc. Anything that improves the phone’s current fix will improve the accuracy of the “final” fix, relative to where you parked. If you can’t get a clear view of the sky, use the photo/note utilities to save info. All of this is consistent with how other location-based services work on these phones. Not all of them have the same logic though as far as pinning the map instantly, you have to wait for that to happen on a lot of them before you can do anything else (like get directions etc.)
IMPORTANT NOTE
FAQ - Please contact your local Authorized Directed Dealer or Retailer for additional clarification regarding this topic.
Related Vehicle: 0

Vehicle Security - Pre-installation/purchase inquiry

ARTICLE # M810-15669

PRODUCT (if applicable)
Viper 5501

BYPASS MODULE (if applicable)

SYMPTOMS
I read that this system has "Channel Linking". What is "Channel Linking"? How does it work and why would I need it

CAUSE

RESOLUTION
Many Directed Keyless/Security/Remote Start systems incorporate "Channel Linking". "Channel Linking" allows an auxiliary channel to be "linked" to a function of the system. Either arm (lock), disarm (unlock) or remote start functions can have an auxiliary channel "linked" to them. Once an auxiliary channel has been "linked" to a function the output can be programmed as a latched output, latched output reset with ignition or timed for 30 seconds. The type of output used is dependant on the vehicle and type of memory system being activated in the vehicle. Common uses for a "linked" auxiliary channel would be to activate memory systems in newer vehicles. Many newer vehicles include memory systems that can adjust the seat, steering wheel and mirror positions, climate control and in some cases radio settings and channel presets.Keep in mind, for "Channel Linking" to work properly the auxiliary channel must be "linked" to the function through feature programming, then configured for the proper type of output depending on the vehicle and finally the auxiliary output needs to be properly connected to the memory circuit in the vehicle that is to be activated.
IMPORTANT NOTE
FAQ - Please contact your local Authorized Directed Dealer or Retailer for additional clarification regarding this topic.
Related Vehicle: 0

Hand Held Remote - Needs help programming a remote

ARTICLE # 161-149547

PRODUCT (if applicable)
Viper 5202V

BYPASS MODULE (if applicable)

SYMPTOMS
User cannot select car 1 or 2 on new LE style remotes

CAUSE
This feature has to be turned on for all new LE models before use to prevent accidental selection of car 2 mode

RESOLUTION
To turn this function on;Hold F for ~ 13 seconds (or until orange LED is on)Hold unlock for ~ 2.5 seconds (or until LED blinks twice)Toggle car 1/2 selction on and off with remote start button (1 blink on, 2 blinks off
IMPORTANT NOTE
This article requires a basic understanding of the installed system.
